MMRA PRO DIVISION - WITH ASA LATE MODELS AT
CONCORD MOTORSPORTS PARK
Our special event with the ASA Late model series was a great opportunity
to get a taste of big time racing. We were in the heart of stock car
racing country, on a hot Saturday night, at a track that has played host to
more NASCAR greats than perhaps any other in the country. Several
drivers have moved from the ASA Late Model series to the upper levels of
NASCAR and there were lots of sponsors in the area, and NASCAR scouts in the
pits looking for the latest talent. At the drivers meeting, series
owner Ron Varney referenced the fact that Landon Cassill flew in to compete
after finishing in the top 10 in the NASCAR Nationwide series the night
before in Chicago. It was clear, this was the place to be for drivers
looking to make a name for themselves.
The track was amazing with a unique tri-oval design that had you racing
wide open toward the wall, not once but twice per lap. It was a true
test of courage for our racers who proved up to the challenge as speeds
quickly picked up in practice rounds. To get a taste of the unique
layout, check out the You Tube video below which is a two lap qualifying run
which placed in the middle of the field at 18.809 seconds and 95 mph.
Polesitter Kevin Bush was faster still with a lap of 18.034 and 99.811
mph!
Everyone loved the track and its wide open character. It also
seemed to be a place where a good driver could catch a loose racecar as
there were several "moments" in our races, but both feature events went
caution free and all cars rolled back into their trailers in good shape.
Congratulations to winners Kevin Bush and Joey Greening - you did a great
job and we hope that your performance helps you get noticed by some folks
that can help you in your careers!
